w o r t h y of a place in every collection. The
g r e e n h o u s e species succced best in a mixture
of sandy loam and brick rubbish ; and when
n o t in liower, they must be very sparingly
w a t e r e d . Cuttings taken olF, and laid to dry
f o r two or three days, will root very freely.
The readiest way of obtaining cuttings from
S. tabidoifbrme and some others, is to cut the
t o p out, when lateral shoots will be immedia
t e l y produced. The hardy k inds succeed best
o n walls or rock-work, and are easily increased
b y oiTsets. The juice of the common houseleek,
S. tcctbriim, applied either by itself or
m i x e d with cream, gives immediate relief in
b u r n s , and other external inflammations.
