F e ed s on the W ild Comfrey (Commelina communis), Hickory, Ground-peas, &c.
I t w e n t into th e ground Auguft 19th, and the fly came out the lo th o f September.
This moth, though found alfo in V irginia, is not very common. '
The fpecies here delineated has very great affinity with Ph. Atriplicis, Linn, with which we
have endeavoured, in the above fpecific chara&er, to contrail it. The larva are much alike,
but that of Atriplicis has a yellow line along the outfide, and two (pots of; the fame colour near
thé tail. Its pupa too is darker than ours, as well as the under wings of the moth.
The name of Wild Comfrey, given by Mr. Abbot to this plant, is new to us.
