T h e caterpillar was taken feeding u pon th e Alder in September, and Ipun its web
on th e 26th o f th a t month. T h e fly came, out Ju n e 2 4 th fo llowing.. I t is alfo in
Virginia, • b u t not very common.
This is nearly akin to the Englilh Dagger Moth, Ph. PJi, but has only one mark of that
Greek character upon its wing, the dilk being occupied by an O, with fomething like a mark
of interrogation, and thebafe being totally without the black central line obfervable in Ph. PJi.
Their caterpillars moreover are widely different.
