P h . Bonibyx elinguis criflata, alis fufcis: primoribus ftriga lata albida; bali lineola nigra;
pundto anguli poftici albo.
F e ed s on the L i r e Oak and other Oaks. Spun up in a th in pale-brown web
April 20th , and came forth on th e wing the g th o f May.
If the larvae of our Phal. achatina, leucophaa and hucojligma be compared with thofe of
pudibunda, fafcellina, antiqua and gonojl'igma of Linnaeus, it will appear that thefe new American
fpecies are the intermediate links between the two firft and the two laft. The white fpot,
more or lefs evident in all ours, towards the pofterior angle of the tipper wings, confirms
the affinity with thofe two laft-mentioned Linnaean fpecies, whofe females are apterous, between
which and our two others leucoftigma is the connecting link.
