T h is caterpillar feeds oh the Cotton, W illow , and feveral wa te r plants. I t enclofed
itfelf in a w h ite web on th e leayes Noyember 6th, and came o u t th e 7 th o f April.
Others w e n t through th eir changes in fummer. Though n o t very common, it is
found in Virginia as we ll as Georgia.
The fpecies before Us has much affinity to the Shark Moth, Ph. umbratica. It is well dif-
tinguifhed by the black fpots on the difk of the upper wings appearing as if they had been "
partly walhed or fmeared off.
