CHAP. LXI.
Intitled, Battle Array ; revealed at Mecca*.
In the name of the moil merciful God.
WHatever is in heaven and in earth celebrateth the praife of G od ; for
he is mighty and wife. O true believers, why do ye fay that which
ye do not * ? It is moft odious in the fight of G o d , that ye fay that which ye do
not. Verily G o d loveth thofe who fight for his religion in battle array,
as though they were a well compacted building. Remember when M oses faid
unto his people, O my people, why do ye injure mec ; fince ye know that I
am the apoftle of G od fent unto you ? And when they had deviated from the
truth, G od made theirhearts to deviate from the right way-, for G o d direft-
eth not wicked people! And when J esus the Son of M a r y faid, O children
of Is r a e l , verily I am the apoftle of G od fent unto you, confirming
the law which was delivered before me, and bringing good tidings of an apoftle
who fhall come after me, and whofe namejhall be A h m e d d. And when
he produced unto them evident miracles, they faid, This is manifeft forcery.
But who is more unjuft than he who forgeth a lye againft G o d , when he is
invited unto I s l am ? And G od direâeth not the unjuft people. They feek
to extinguifh Goo’s light with their mouths : but G od will perfedthis light,
though the infidels be avgrfe thereto. It is he who hath fent his apoftle
with the direction, and the religion of truth, that he may exalt the fame a-
bove every religion, although the idolaters be averfe thereto. O true believers,
fhall I fhew you a merchandize which will deliver you from a painful torment
hereafter? Believe in G od and his apoftle ; and defend G od’ s true religion
with your fubftftnce, and in your own perfons. This will be better for you,
