Cast, chased, and in very high relief. The coronation of
William was celebrated at Amsterdam with unusual splendour
and festivities. The protection of the city was committed to
the company of the City Guard, whose Captain was Bernard
Muikens ; Lieutenant, John Althusius ; Ensign, Sylvester Van
Tongeren. The expense of these medals was defrayed from
the accumulation of fines for non-attendance and other delinquencies.

The coronation of William III. was celebrated with great
rejoicings at most of the principal towns in the United Provinces.
At Botterdam a great dinner was given in the place
where the statue of Erasmus is erected, and this small medal
was distributed upon the occasion.
