pubescent edges, ovate, acute, pubescent, inside glabrous, and granulate outside, So in.
long. Outer petals similai- and -about the same iu size, both reflexed; inner petals erect,
much larger (-65 in. long), lengthening after expansion, glabrous outside, glabrescent inside.
Siiimens intermixed with hairs, -very numerous, short, compressed, with obliquely truncate
apices not concealing the linear anthers. Ovaries small, numerous, pubescent, on a long
narrow torus, oblong; 1- to 2-ovuled ; style oblong. Ripe carpels oblong, terete, blunt,
glabrous, grooved, '6 in. long and -35 in. in diam.; pericarp slightly pulpy. Seed one,

branches striate and lenticellate, glabrous. Leaves tliinly conaccous, oblong-lanceolate or
narrowly oblong, obtusely acuminate ; the base sub-cuceate or slightly rounded; both
surfaces glabrous, shining, reticulate; main nei-ves about 9 pairs, spreading, forming several
series of intra-margiual arches, f a i n t ; length 2 to 4 in., breadth '65 to 1 in.; petiole
•05 in. Fcduncles slender, 1 to 1-5 in. long (longer in fruit), puberulous or glabrous ;
bracteoles minute, several basal and one sub-mesial. Sepah and outer peíais very small,
eciual, ovate, ciliate. Inner petals many times larger (-5 in. long), oblong, sub-acute,
glabrous or glabrescent. Stamens numerous, slightly apiculate. Ovaries numerous, oblong,
f'-labrous, 1- or 2-oviiled; style short; stigma oblong. Ripe carpels l-seeded and globular,
or 2-SGeded and ovoid, -4 to -5 in. long, always mucronate, glabrous, si;b-granulate;

young branches rugose, lenticellate. Leaves thinly coriaceous, lanceolate or ellipticlanceolate,
shortly acuminate, the base sub-cuneate; lower surface reticulate; main
nerves about 7 pairs, spreading; length 2 to 4 in., breadth '7 to 1'5 in.; petiole '25
to -35 in. Peduncles slender, solitary, axillary, '5 to 1-5 in. long (longer in fruit), with
2 or 3 small basal bracteoles. Flowers -4 in. long. Sepals and outer petals minute,
equal, ovate, ciliate. Inner petals much larger than the outer, iliick, ovate, oblong, acute,
•4 in. long, glabrous except the thickencd margin towards the apex. Stamens few.
Ovaries more numerous than the stamens; stigma oblong or globose, 1- or 2-ovulcd.
Ripe carpels globose, apiculatc, glabrous, -4 in. in diam. ; stalks 35 in.

15 to 30 feet liigh ; young branches dark-coloured; all jjarts glabrous except the edges
of the sepals and outer petals. Leaves membranous, shining, oblong-oblanceolate, acuminate,
the base sub-cuneate or rounded; main nerves about 12 pairs, spreading, faint;
length 5'5 to 7 in., breadth 1-75 to 2'75 i n . ; petiole '1 to -lo in. Flowers '5 to
in. long, axillary, solitary; pedicels slender, 'ó to •75 in. long (longer in fruit), with
3 or 4 lanceolate bracteoles at the base. Sepah and outer petals sub-equal, minute,
o^-ato, sub-acute, the edges ciliate. Inner petals very much larger than tlie outer,
ovate-oblong, veined, sub-acute, greenish-yollow, '5 òr '6 in. long. Stamens about 18,
coinprcssed, short, often bent; the apiculus broad, shallow. Ovaries numerous, elongate,
glabrous; stigma large, capitate, sessile. Ripe carpels numerous, globular-ovoid, blunt,
glabrous, sub-granular, '25 to -3 in. long; stalks -70 to 1 in., slender. Seeds ovoid.
Perak: at low elevations,—-S'è«'¿cc/zm, Kingh Collector.
This species approaches M. macropoda, lliq,, but its leaves arc more narrowed to
the base and more acuminate.

ovate, pubescent, sub-acute. Inner petals many times larger than the outer, narrowly
oblong from a broad base, green in the upper, purple in the lower, half, '6 to -7.5
in. long, ad pressed-puberulous. Stamens intermixed with hau's, numerous; the apex conical
and not concealing the anthers. Ovaries numerous, pubescent, oblong, oblique, 1- to
3-ovulcd; stigma oblong. Ripe carpels numerous, sub-sessile, crowded, ovoid, blunt,
