A stanb or small slender tree; young branches densely rnsty-tomentose, the larger
pale and glabrous. Leases stoutly membranous, narrowly oblong to obovate-oblong,
more or less abruptly and shortly acuminate, slightly narrowed to the rounded base ;
upper surface shining, glabrous, except the pubcrulous midrib ; the • lower sparsely
pubernlous, the midrib and nerves dark rusty-tomontose ; the latter 28 to 34 pahs, .
sub-horizootal, inter-arching near the margin, very prominent, as is the midrib, on
the lower and depressed on the upper surface ; length 9 to 15 in., breadth 3 to 5-0
i n . ; petiole -30, channelled, pubescent Fiomrs solitary, from the stem ; pedicels stout,
deonr-ved, each with two deciduous bracteoles at the base, -0 in. long. Sepals large,
green, rigidly membranous, conjoine'd into a cup with 3 broadly-ovate, sub-acute teeth,
boldly nerved and reticulate, minutely rnfous-pubeseent, persistent ; length from -To to
1 in. Peiab coriaceous, velvety-tomentose, yellowish, tinged with red ; the outer
broadly lanceolate, acuminate, slightly narrowed and thickened at the base, from l-2o
to l'7o in. long ; the inner rather more than one-third as long, ovate, acuminate.
i«ll:ers numerous, compressed, linear, with acute granular conical apices. Omnes
numerous, narrowly elongate, densely pubescent, 1-ovulod ; style straight; stigma
oblique, minately lobed. Eipe carpels obliquely ovoid, with long pointed slightly
hooked apices, rufons-imbescent, -To in. long ; stalks only '1 in. long, stout.

or small tree ; all parts glabrous except the ovaries and carpels ; young branches
dark-coloni-ed. Leaves coriaceous, oblong, sub-acute, or shortly and obtusely acuminate,
the base cnneate; both surfaces shining and reticulate; main nerves 12 to 20 pairs,
faint, speading, inter-arching within the edge ; length 7 to 12 in , breadth I'S to
3'5 in. ; petiole '25 to -5 in., thick. Mowers solitary, axillary or extra-axillary ;
pedicel "5 to 1 in. long with a few scale-like bracteoles near the base. Septals
thinly coriaceous, orbicular-ovate, blunt, connate below, nerved and reticulate, persistent,

5 to 15 feet high; young branches very stout, dark-coloured. Leases coriaceous, lai'ge,
oblong-lanceolate to oblong-oblanceolate, acute or shortly acuminate, slightly narrowed to
the sub-acute or rounded base; main nerves 16 to 20 pairs, spreading, impressed above
and slightly prominent beneath; length 10 to 18 in., breadth 2-0 to 4-5 in.; petiole -6
to 1 in., very stout. Flowers slightly supra-axillary or from the branches below the
leaves, solitary or in pair's, green; pedicels -35 in. long, sub-clavate. Sepals broadly
ovate, acute, connate at the base, '65 in. long, slightly puberalous, tinged with purple.
Petals coriaceous; the outer oblong-lanceolate, acute or acinninate, I to 1-5 in. long;

It is possible that two species may be included here, there being some diflierence
bet-ween the specimens in the nervation of the leaves, and also in the size and nervation
of the calyx.
