This spcoics and the next ni-e TCIY closely »Hied; and, working on HoAarinm
raatoi-ials alono, I ivonld have nnitcd them. My friend Dr. H. Trirnen, tbo distinguished
Director of the Botanic Garden at Pemdeniyn, -»-ho has had the advantage of seemg
both plants growim;-, and ivho has worked with fresh material, on being appealed to by
me remarked as f o l l o w s : - " U,mui eleg«« and Z^Unim aro near enough as species, but
t h e y are, I think, distinct. TJ. eks'^s is a larger shrnb, with larger ñowers; its leaves
are only 3 to 5 in. long, and the ripe carpels arc markedly constrictcd between the
seeds and finely haiiy. ¡7. Zej/lmica has mnch larger leaves (7 to 9 in. long), and
t h e ripe carpels are glabrous (slightly rough, however) and very little censlnctcd
between the seeds. But," he adds, "of course these diameters are comparative, not
contmsted."
