branches slender, glabrous, dark-coloured when dry. Zeaees membranous, narrowly
lanceolate, taper-pointed, the edges undulate; the base broadly cuneate, rarely rounded;
both surfaces glabrous, the upper shining ; main nervos 20 to 35 pairs, faint, oblique;
length 3-5 to 7 in., breadth -Jo to I'o in. ; petiole -25 to -33 in. Flomers in fascicles or
shortly jjeduncled umbels, numerous, yellowish-green, about 1 in. long; pedicels slender,
1 to 2 in. long, with one or even two minute bracts about the middle.

linear, spreading, pointed, with slightly expanded bases, puberulous. Ripe earpels numerous,
stalked, ovoid, obtuse at both ends, glabrous, -75 in. long; stalk -5 in. long, stout,

Indigenous in the south of British India and in the drier parts of Ceylon. Planted,
fspe-cially near temples, throughout the warmer and moistcr parts of British India.
In the south of India known by the vernacular name of Asoke: in Northern India
named Deldar.

glabrous or puberulous; main nerves 13 to 18 paira, oblique, curving little, bold and
prominent beneath; length 6 to 8 in., breadth 1-5 to 3-23 in.; petiole -35 to -5 in.
Flowers in shortly pedunculate few ^ or many-flowered cymes, from the axils of the

undcr-surface of nerves of leaves and inflorescence; young branches pale brown,
striate, sparsely lenticellate. Leaves sub-coriaceous, ovate-oblong to oblong-lanceolate,
acute or shortly acuminate, the base rounded or sub-acute; upper surface shining; lower
dull, sometimes puberalous on the midrib and nerves;, main nerves 12 to 16 pairs,
oblique, prominent beneath; length 5 to 11 in., breadth 2 to 4-5 in.; petiole -25 in.
Flotvers pedicellcd, in few-flowered sessile fascicles from the axils of fallen leaves or
from tubercles on the larger branches; pedicels minutely pubescent, with a small bract
below tho middle, I to 1-25 in. long. Sepals small, bluntly triangular, recurved,
jjubescciit outside. Petals spreading, linear, sub-acute or acute, greenish-yellow to purplish,

Ripe carpels stalked, ovoid-elliptic, slightly raammillate, contracted towards the base
