young branches slender, glabrous, dark-coloured, buds golden-pubescent. Leaves thinly
coriaceous, narrowly elliptic, tapering, obtuse or slightly a<!ute, the base rounded; upper
surface glabrous; the li)wer glaucous, minutely pubescent; main nerves about 12 pairs,
spreading, f a i n t ; ' l e n g t h 5-5 to 9 in,, breadth 2-5 to 4 in.; petiole -5 to -65 in., glabrous.
Flowei-s minute, in pubescent leaf-opposed cymes ; pedicels -20 in. long, with a small

A species known only by the imperfect specimens coUected by Sir J. B. Hooker
many years ago; but well distinct by its large, nearly glabrous, few-nerved leaves
and small flowers-,

young branches glabrous, dark-coloured. leaves thinly coriaceous, oblong or oblonglanceolate
(broadly elliptic in var.), acute or shortly acuminate, the base rounded or
sub-cuneate; upper surface minutely pubosceut, the midrib rather coarsely so; lower
surfaco paler, sparsely adpressed-pubescent; main nerves 16 to 18 pairs, oblique, cui-ving
very slightly and not inter-arching (26 pairs spreading and inter-arching in var.);
length 3-5 to 7 in. (7 to 10 in. in var.), breadth 1-5 to 2-1 in. (3-75 to 5-25 in. in
vai°); petiole -3 in. (-0 or -6 in. in var.) Flomers small ('4 in. long), in leaf-opposed
cymes of 4 to 8; pedicels -15 in., with a bract about the nnddle and a smaller at
the base. Sepals broadly ovate, sub-acute, connate at the base, spreading, pubescent
outside, puberulous within, -15 in. long. leathery, oblong, mdened and concave
at the base, sul>obtuse at the apex; the outer adpressed-cinereous-pubescent outside,
glabrous inside, -3 to -4 in. long; the inner smaller, thicker, glabrous except the upper
tliii-d outside. Stamens numerous, with short thick filaments. Anthers linear, lateral;
apical appendage of connective short, bluntly conical. Ovaries short, oblong, oblique,
curved, coarsely pubescent; style as long as the ovary, haiiy. Carpels unknown. Hook,

This, species agrees with M. SVaUichii, II. f. & Th., in having short filaments to its
stamens; but the flowers of this are more numerous and smaller and its leaves rather
larger.

branches slender, rusty-tomentose, speedily glabrous, dark grey, lenticellate. Leaves
oblong-lanccolato to ovate-lanceolatc, acute or obtuse, the base rounded or sliglitly
narrowed; upper sui'face glabrous except the slightly puberulous midrib; under-surface
sparsely adpressed-pubescent; main neives 7 to 10 pahs, ascending, -curving, rather
prominent beneath; length 3 to 5 in., breadth 1-25 to PTo in. ; petiole -25 in. Flowers
•35 in. long, in few-flowered short leaf-opposed racemes; pedicels about -2 in. long,
rusty tomentose; the bracteole orbicular, median. Sepals orbicular, pointed, rastj'-
pubescent outside, glabrous and slightly granular within like the outer petals. Petals
leatheiy, ovate-oblong, obtuse; the outer about 'So in. long; the inner smaller and
ruore concave at the base, glabrous and granular except a patch along the midrib in
its upper half outside. Stamens numerous; the apical process of the connective large,
glabrous, ti-iangular. Ovaries obliquely ovoid, densely sericeous, with 8 to 10 ovules
