1. Orophea setos a, King in Journ. As. Soc. Bengal 61, pi. 2, 89. A shrub; young
branches densely covered with a layer of minute pubescence with numerous, loQg,
brownish, straight bristles projectmg beyond i t ; the older branches dark-coloured and
almost glabrous. Leaoez membranous, oblong or oblong-oblancoolate, shortly acuminate,
the base rounded; main nerves 8 to 10 pairs, oblique, inter-arching near the edge;
both surfaces sparsely setose, more densely so on the midrib and nerves; the lower
also with sparse, minute pubescence; length 5'5 to 7-5 in., breadth 2 to 3-75 in.;
petiole -05 in., setose. Flowers solitary, extra-axillary, about '2 in. in diam. when
expanded; pedicels very slender, To in. long, pubescent, with a single minute bractcole
below the middle. Sepah sub-orbicular, blunt. Outer petals much larger than the sepals,
broadly ovate, sub-acute, pubescent outside and glabrous inside like the sepals. Imvr
petals longei than tlie outer, vaulted, '23 io. long, the limb trapezoid sagittate, pubesccnt
on the blck and edges, glabrous iu front; the claw narrow, shorter than the limb.
Male flower; stamens numerous, cuneate; the connective broadly truncate at the apex.
Ovaries unknown. Ripe carpels 4 or 5, sessile, globose or oblong-globose, -3 in. in
diam., densely and minutely pubescent and with a few long sot® besides. Seeds solitary,
rarely 2 ; the testa pale, rather rough; the albumen very -dense.

lenticellate and sti-iate. Leaves membranous, elliptic-oblong, very shortly and abruptly
acuminate, the base rounded; upper surface glabrous when adult, the lower pubemlous,
especially on the midrib; main nerves 7 or 8 pairs, oblique, faint; length 3 to 4 in.,
breadth 1-25 to 1-75 in.; petiole -1 in. Peduncles 1 in. long or less, axillary or supraaxillary,
3- or 4-flowered, golden-tomentose; bracts several; pedicels with a linear
basal and a supra-median bractcole. Flowers about "5 in. in diam. Sepals orbicular,
pubescent. Outer petals ovate, acute; the outer surface and margins pubescent; inner
petals trapezioid, hairy, with a long, naiTOw, glabrous claw. Stamens 12 in two rows
(those of the outer row often imperfect), small. Ovaries 6, oblong, blunt, pubescent,
2-ovuled; stigma sub-capitate, sessile. Ripe carpcls oblong, pointed at each end, but
especially at the apex, nearly 1 in. long and red in colour. Seed 1, scrobiculate. Hook,
