On t h i s p l a n t G r i f f i t h f o u n d e d his g e n u s Fissistigma; the d i v i s i o n of t h e s t i g m a is,
h o w e v e r , v e r y s l i g h t l y m a r k e d in the only specimen I have seen. The p l a n t is v e ry
b a d l y r e p r e s e n t e d iu collections. As Sir J o s e p h Hooker p o i n t s out {PI. Br. Ind. i. 80),
i t must be v e r y near Melodorxim splucnocarpum {Uoaria sjihcemcarpa, Blume). In il/".
verrucosa the s t i g m a is v e r y d i s t i n c t l y divided.

T h e flowers of t h i s r e s e m b l e t h o s e of M. fulgens, H. f. & T h . , but t h e y a r e smaller
a n d m o r e n u m e r o u s t h a n those of M. fulgens; the petals of this species also a r e t h i n n er
a n d t h e apical process of t h e a n t h e r s is b r o a d e r and b l u n t e r . The leaves too of t h i s are
b r o a d e r , and i n the i n d u m e n t u m on t h e i r lower sui'face t h e y differ c o n s i d e r a b l y f r om
t h o s e of 'M. fulgens. Fi-uit of this species is as yet u n k n o w n . The ovaries have o n ly
4 ovules. M. glaucescens, Hance, resembles this in f o l i a g e.
