midrib and nerves; main nerves 7 to 14 pairs, prominent on the under, impressed on
the upper, surface, spreading; the secondary nerves obliquely transverse, prominent;
length 6 to 12 in., breadth 2-65 to 7'5 in.; petiole -2 to -4 in., rafous-tomentose.
1','owers solitary, extra-axillary; pedicels -3 to 1 in., rufous-tomcntose, bearing two bracts,
one small, tht* other large, obovate, ribbed. jSejja/s free, nearly half as long as the
outer petals, elliptic, sub-acute; the edges undulate, rufous-tomentoso on both surfaces.
Petals thick, lanceolate, caudate-acuminato, the midrib prominent; the base concave,
both ro^vs glabrous iimde; the outer about 1 to 1'25 in. long, tomentose outside; the
inner about '5 in. shorter, connate into a narrow acute cone, puberiilous outside.
Ovaries 1-ovuled. Ripe carpels elliptic, apiculate, pubescent, "35 in. long; stalks '2 in.,
pubescent.
I'his closely resembles Oxymitra cuneiformis, Jliq., of whiiih Blume (under the name
of Po)iaUhia cuneiformis) gives an excellent description and three admirable figures {Fl.
Javce Anon. 75, t. 35, ZQD and 37). But in Blume's plant the flowers are much larger,
tlie petals are falcate, "while the sepals are much smaller and have caudate apices; the
pedicels too are niuch longer and have smaller bracteoles.

long; young branches rusty-tomentose. Leaves large, thickly membranous, oblong-ovate,
often slightly obovate, obtuse, truncate or retuse, often unequal-sided, slightly narrowed
to the rounded or slightly cordate, equal or unequal-sided base; upper surface shñüng,
glabrous except the tomentose midrib; the lower sparsely but softly puberulous; the
midi'ib and nerves pubescent, sub-glaucous; main nerves 10 to 15 pairs, oblique, rather
straight, inter-arching near tho edge; the secondary nerves obliquely transverse, distinct;
lungth 7 to 11 in., breadth 3 to 6 in.; petiole -25 to -45 in., tomentoso. Flowers
solitary, extra-axillary, about 1*3 in. long; pedicels •25 in. (twice as long in fniit), rustytomentose,
-with an ovate or oblong bracteole. Bc-pals thick, sub-orbicular or broadly
triangular, sub-acute, connate, minute. Petals very thick and concave in the lower
half, yellow; the outer 1 to 1-25 in. long, ovate-lanceolate, with triquetrous tips, tomentose
outside ; inner much shorter, broadly ovate, acuminate, counivent. Carpels cylindricüvoid,
apiculate, slightly narrowed to the stalk, puberulous or sub-glabrous, yellow when
ripe, slightly gi-anular when dry, '5 to -75 in. long and "3 to '4 in. in diam. ; stalk

cuueate; upper surface glabrous, the midrib puberulous; the lower paler, sub-glaucous,
puberulous or glabrescent; main nerves 7 to 9 paùs, ascending, prominent beneath;
length 3-5 to 7-5 in., breadth 2 to 3-5 in. ; petiole '2 to '4 in. Flowers shortly
pedicelled, solitary, extra-axillary, 1 to 1-15 in. long; pedicels -4 in. long (elongating
in fruit), angled, slender, with 1 subulate bracteole. Sepals fleshy, ovate, much
acuminate, spreading or lefloxed, adpressed, rusty-puberulous. Petals fleshy, yellow,
very unequal, the outer lanceolate-oblong, obtuse, expanded and concave in the lower
third, rusty-adpressed pubescent ; the midrib prominent, sub-glabrous inside; the inner
only as large as the sepals^ with broad bases (cleft in the middle) and long acuminate

The structure of the flowers of this species appears to me to be that of an
Oxymitra rather than of a Polyalthia or Gvaiteria, and therefore I have transferred it
to this genus. -
