coriaceous, narrou'ly lanceolate or ovate-lauceolate, obtuse, the base sub-cuneate or
rounded ; both surfaces glabrous, the upper shining, the lower pale ; main nerves
8 or 9 pairs, oblique, inter-arching inside the margin, faint ; length 1-75 to 3 in.,
breadth -7 to M in. ; petiole -3 in. Ftetoera numerous, yellowish, in short extraaxillary
bracteate racemes ; pedicels -2 in. long, pubescent, with a minnfce bracteolc
at the base. Sepals connate at the base, orbicular, roBexed, puberulous. Petals subequal,
ovate-oblong, tapering to the obtuse apex and slightly contracted at the base,
minutely pubescent outside, -30 in. long. Stantens in two rows, slightly apiculate, compressed.
Oearies 3 to Ó, oblong, glabrous; ovules 8, in two rows; style very s h o r t;
stigma capitate. Ripe emfeh large, woody, sub-obovoid or sub-globose, tomentose, 1-3
to 2 in. long and 1-4 in. in diam., sub-sessile, or with thick stalks '25 in, long,

s h r u b ; young branches yellowish-pubescent, speedily becoming glabrous and darkcoloured.
Leaoes coriaceous, oblong-lanceolate, acute at base and apex ; upper
surface glabrous, shining; the lower minutely, sparsely adpressed-puberulous, or glabrous,
darker than the upper when dry, minutely reticulate ; main nerves about 12 to 15
pairs, sub-horizontal, very faint, inter-arching far from the e d g e ; length 4 to 5'5 in.,
breadth 1-3 to 1-75 i n . ; petiole -2 in. Peduncles extra axillary, 1- or 2-flowcred ;'
flowers about -5 in. long, conical in bud ; pedicels about '3 in. long, tawny-tomeatose
; bracteoles 1 or 3, sub-orbicular. Sepals connate into a spreading cup, -35 in.
broad, tomentose outside and glabrous inside, with 3 broad sub-acute teeth. Petals
much larger than the sepals, fleshy, oblong, ovate, sub-acute; the outer tomentose
on both surfaces, -4 in. long; the inner narrower, glabrous inside. Stamens numerous,
with shoi-t thick filaments; apical process of connective small, not concealing
the short perfectly dorsal anther-cells. Pistils about 3, oblong, tomentose, many-ovidedl
stigma large, broad, sessile. Ripe carpels unknown.

Trees. Flowers fascicled on caulinc tubercles, bisexual. Sepals 3, persistent, ovate,
acute, the bases connatc. Petals 6; outer valvate; inner smaller, oblong, imbricate.
Stamens about 12; the filament half the length of the extrorse anther-cells; connective
obliquely truncate. Omnj 1 ; stigma sessile, peltate, crenate; ovules few. Eipe carpels
globose. Scads several, 2-scriate.

rusty-pubescent. Leaves thinly coriaceous, oblong, mrely elliptic, shortly acuminate, tho
base rounded; both surfaces glabrous, the nerves and midrib puberulous beneath when
youug; main nerves 12 to U paii-s, oblique, rather straight, depressed on the upper,
strong and prominent on the lower, surface; length 4 to '8 in., breadth l-o to 3'2.5
i n . ; petiole -4 in., pubenalous. Flowers '25 in. long, in extra-axillary fascicles of 8
<ir 10; pedicels -30 t o - ó in., slender, rusty-pubescent; bi-acteoles orbicular, one clo.se
to the flower, the others basal and imbricate. Sepals ovate, connate at the base,
s^n-eadiDg, pubescent outside, glabrous within. Outer petals oblong-elUptic, concave,
obtuse, cinereous-tomentose outside, pubescent inside; inner petals smaller, tliick, concavo
and very tomentose in the upper half. Stamens about 15; the connective witli a broad
truncate apex. Ovary one, oblong, angled, pubescent; ovules 4 to 6. Ripa carpels
broadly ovoid, blunt, minutely velvety pale-rusty tomentose, 1-5 in. long and 1-1 in.
in diam.; pericarp woody. Seeds about 4, oblong, compressed, separated by dissepiments.

The species above described has only a single pistil. But there are, in the
Calcutta Herbarium, specimens from Sumatra (Forbes No. 2713, iu fruit but without
flower) of what appears to bo a second Einjstonia, and in these there are two caipels.
If that plant proves to be a Kingstonia, the diagnosis of the genus will have to be
ameoded.

Trees. Flotoers small, greenish, axillary or from the axils of fallen leave.?, fasciculate
or umbellate. Sepals 3, ovate, valvate. Petals 6, valvate, opouing late and accrescent
flat, liueai-; the inner petals smaller than the outer. Stamens 9 to 12, in two rowsanther
colls lateral, introrse ; connectives produced beyond thcii- apices, truncate. Torus
small, slightly concave, pubescent. Ovary solitary, ovate, glabrous, contracted into a vcr\-
short stylo ; stigma siib-capitate ; ovules 2, superposed. Carpel coriacoous, olliptic or
globose. Seeds 2, lai-ge, compressed. Five species, all Malayan.
Leavos coriaceous; flowers more tliaa -25 in. long; sepals broadly
ovate; outer petals obtuse.
Flower-pedicels minutely bracteolate; outer petals linear; ovary
