climber; young branches minutely rasty-tomentose. Leaves very coriaceous when adult,
elUptic to oblong, obtuse or shortly and bluntly mucronate, the base acute or rounded ;
upper surface glabrous, shining; the lower dull, paler in colour when young, sparsely
adpressed.pflose, afterwards glabrous; main nerves 9 or 10 ¡jairs, obhque, when dry,
f a i n t l y impressed on the upper, and slightly prominent on the lower, surface; length of
blade 6 to 6-5 in., breadth 1-7S to 2-75 in. ; petiole -3 to -4 in., stout. PeduMles flat,

.50 to 70 feet long, ultimately all parts, except the inflorescence, glabroas; young
branches slender, rufous-pubescent; the bark dark-coloured when very young, afterwards
rather pale, striate. Leaves when adult coriaceous, oblong, shortly acuminate, the base
acute- both surfaces glabrous, the upper shinmg, the lower dull, but when young
sparsely pubescent along tho midrib; main nerves 10 to 12 pairs, inconspicuous on
t h e upper, slighlly prominent on the lower, surface, spreading, forming two or three
series of archos within tho margin; length of blade 6-5 to 9 in., breadth 2-5 to 3 m.;
petiole -4 in. Peduncles stout, pubescent when young, bearing 3 or 4 pedicels. Fiomrs
1-35 in. long; pedicels about 1 m., pubcseent, slightly thickened upwards. Sepals
coriaceous, triangular, acute, concave, spreading, lufous-pilose on both surfaces, slightly
conjoined at the base, -25 in. long. Petals coriaceous; the portion above the saccate
base lanceolate, sub-acute, sti-igosely tomcntose on both surfaces; the claw partly

glabrous and partly covered with minute white hair. Antier, compressed, with oblong,
obliquely truncate, flattened heads. Ovaries few, oblong, glabrous; the stigmaB broad,

branches rather stout, at first puberulous, speedily becommg glabrous and dark-ooloured.
Learn coriaceous, rather broadly lanceolate or oblanceolate, rarely sub-obovate, elliptic,
sub-acato or obtusely acuminate, the base acute; both surfaces quite g l a b r o u s; tho upper
shining, pale green (when dry), the lower dull and brown; main nerves 8 to 11 pairs,
oblique, rather straight, faint on both surfaces; length of blade 3-5 t o 5 in., breadth 1-4
to 2, rarely 2-25 in. Peduncles flattened, much hooked, each bearing 1 to 4 (usually
1-flow-ed) pedicels. Flowers 1-25 to 1-75 in. long; pedicels densely rusty-tomentose
with numerous small rounded or ovate i-usty bracts near the base. Sepals broadly
ovate-triangular, acute, spreading, conjoined below, rufous-tomentose externally. Petals
coriaceous (above the basal sac), oblong-lanceolate, acute; the inner 3 rather smaller,
brownish, densely tomentoso. Anilm-s sessile, bread, truncate. Oearijts glabrous or villous
(fide Beddome). Ripe carpels broadly ovoid, mucronate, harshly tomontose, nigulose.

the flowers glabrous; young branches slender, dark-coloured. Leaves thinly coriaceous,
oblong-lanceolate, shortly caudato-acuinmate, the base cuneate; both surfaces shining,
minutely reticulate; main neiwes 8 to 10 pans, spreadmg, inter-arching -2 in. f r om the
margin,' f a i n t ; length of blade 3-5 to 6 in., breadth 1'25 to 1-75 i n . ; petiole -25 in.
Peduncles extra-axillary, 2- to 3-flowered, glabrous; pedicels thickened upwards, -5 to -75
in. long, glabrous. Sepals triangular, acute, glabrous, -25 in. long, enlarging a little
with the fr-uit. Petals fleshy, adpressed-puberulous, elliptic-lanceolate above the concave
base, obtuse; the outer thi-ee 1-75 in. long, the inner three smaller. AnDiers with a
rounded apical process from the connective Ovaries many, glabrons. Carpels (quite

This species is near A. pleurogynus, Miq., but is perfectly glabrous, not sub-strigose;
its ripe fruit is unknown.
