I r is my desire that Mi-. Henry Wilsone keep up the establishment now employed of labourers
for keeping my garden in order, cousUting of a serang, four labom-ers, and a number of children,
and also the two Eui-opeans now in charge of the small vessel; that the two hoys Missah and George
be allowed to remain at the gardens until Major Kyd's aaTival, which may be expected in July. All
my loose papers in the several tin boxes had best be kept for Major Kyd's previous examination.
In addition to what is mentioned in my will respecting my being buriod in my own garden, that
my burial may be attended with no military ceremony, and that I trust my fiiend Captain Apsley
will pay due attention to this article, and see my last remains committed to the ground in my own
garden, on the west side of the pueka-walled tank near to where an alligator pear tree now stands,
and that my funeral expenses do not exceed three hundred rupees.
There are in the house at Sibpui' three boxes containing botanical drawings of the plants in
the envu-ons of this petty district; also a bos and several books containing an lonfinished collection of
the birds indigenous to this tract, as also of such as migrate here from the adjoining fi-ontiers during
the cold aud hot weather: also of the fish frequenting the Hooghly. These, having been collected
at the Company's expense, ore public property aud should be transmitted to the Court of. Directors,
although unarranged in botanical or artificial order which I had reserved for a future day.

On Ms arrivai in England ho mnst proceed agam to Donay and qnaUy h.mself for an engineer

which, I think, joa cannot fail. In this latter case, an Ensign's commission m tho K i n g . rn™,t likewise

months' study at Donay) he also will be further advanced in tho army in point of rank than if- ho
had remained here; and, in order that no time may be lost, I bayo lesolyod to aoeommodato him with
a sum of money, which ho himself thmks equivalent to the expenses that wUl be meurrcd durmg hn,
two yearV absence, which will in a great measure provide agamst the worst that cu. possibly happen,
namely of jour failing to procure bim either of tho aforesaid appointments from the India House.
1 have also mtroduced bin to semo of my friends here, who, in case of any accident happening to
myself, will receive and provide for him in a manner nerf to what he would have expeeted fi-om myself.
Eespecting your son's genius and parts, I am perfectly Batis6ed with them, and doubt not be will mal»
the desired ptoaoienoy in tho studies which I bayo ah-eady pointed out to bin.
This plan which I have laid down for your son may probably startle you upon first reading : and,
it upon duo consideration it should not appear to yon in the same light that it does to me, I am
confident that, upon yom' submitting it to any Indian lately returned from this part of the eontinent and
acquainted with the state of afiaiis, every part of what I now write to you will be confirmed. Nor
have I presumed on tho strength of my own judgment alone to decide in this matter, but I have the
nnanimons approbation of all the friends whom I baye consulted.
I have omitted mentioning your gettmg your son appointed to the civil branch on this establishment,
apprehending that this may be attended with too much difSenlty, if not espense ; but, if yon can
muster interest enough, by aU means do it ; but do not alter the plan of his education, for here it is
equally necessary to know bow to brandish the sword as to wield the pen.
