T h is fpecies o f Sifymlrium is fcarcely to be found except
o n th e fhores o f A n g le fe a , M a n , Cumberland and the weft o f
S cotland. O u r w ild fpecimen was gathered on the ifle o f
W a ln e y by W . H u ftle r , E fq . in June 18 0 1 .
I E h e root is perennial and ftrong. Stems feveral, 6 or 8
inches h igh , fpreading, unb ranched, round, fmooth, for the
moft part deftitute o f leaves, except about the bottom. Lea ve s
m an y, on longifh ftalks, rather flelhy and in c lin in g to a glaucous
hu e , pinnatifia ; their lobes narrowith, diftant, entire or toothed
fumiflied occafionally here and there w ith a few br iftly hairs!
Flowers corymbofe, large. C a ly x tipped w ith hairs, Its leaves
b u t little expanded. Petals lemon-coloured,- veined w ith
purple. Pods loofely fpreading, not quite e re& , beaked, o b -
fcurely fquare, fmooth.— In a garden the Items become taller
and leafy, fometimes branched.

Plantarum, w e fu fp e ft (as he did) to be a d iftin ft fpecies
h a v in g fmaller flowers, lefs evidently veined, and differing in
its general afpedt. W e therefore quote the firft edition o f that
w o rk , in w h ich this fpecies was merely adopted from D illeniu s
w h o unqueftionably deferibed our plant.
