Gen. Char. Pod bursting elastically, the valves
turningback, equal to the partition. Stigma entire.
Cal. a little spreading. One gland on each side,
between the shorter stamina and the calyx.

third the length o f their footstalks.

A u s tr ia , an d Switzerland p ro d u ce th is Cardamine, it m ig h t be
e xp e c ted to g row in S cotland. W e h a v e a lre ad y mentioned,
under Arabis stricta, t. 6 1 4 , th a t it is not C. pumila, lellidis
folio, alpina o f R a y , or o f G e ra rd e .
T h e root is perennial, rather w o o d y . Stems several, an
in ch or tw o h ig h , naked or le a fy , smooth lik e e v e ry other
p a r t. L e a v e s o v a te , entire, or s ligh t ly w a v y ; th e rad ic a l
ones numerous, on lo n g s ta lk s ; th e rest sometimes n ea rly sessile.
Flowers corym b o se , few , w ith w h ite u p r ig h t petals,

destitute o f hairs.
