have arisen during its progress, I lament that some of my
best friends and social companions have departed without
that satisfaction, but their ardour for science will not be forgotten.
May the peace, at the commencement of which
this work ends, long promote the intercourse of British Botanists
with their continental Friends, that all may socially
partake of the benefits arising from a knowledge of the extent
and sublimity of the creation, and become admirers of
the numerous blessings continually spread before us.
The Fungi being necessarily a part of British Botany, I
have herewith subjoined a list of them as published in English
Fungi. To these I have put the initials E. for edible;
P. for poisonous; D. for such as are signs of disorder in
trees, corn, &c, such as most parasites; R. for rot in houses,
ships, &c.
