T h is rem ark ab le Kingfisher, which I consider to b e th e extreme type o f th e subfamily
Dacelomnm, is one o f th e ra re s t b ird s in E u ro p e an Museums. I t h a s as y e t only been observed
in th e neigh b o u rh o o d o f Dorey in New Guinea. T h e re th e o riginal specimen w as obtained
by Lesson an d th e re Mr. Wallace also m e t w ith it. Lesson states th a t i t is an mhabitaiit
of the forests in th e n e ighbourhood o f t h a t harbour. ^ t , ,
