Above slaty-blue, the head crested, each feather having a black line down the cen tre;
a spot in front o f the eye, and a collar ro u n d the back o f the neck, w h ite ; wing-coverts
spotted w ith white ; wing-feathers black, tipped with white, th e basal h a lf o f th e in n er web
o f the primaries white, the o u ter web being marked with the same colour, tlie in n er w eb of
th e secundaries marked w ith white, as also th e o u ter web which is broadly edged with
s la ty -b lu e ; ta il slaty-blue, irre g u la rly banded and spotted w ith w h ite; th e en tire u nder
surface white, w ith the exception o f a broad band o f slaty-hlue on the u pper p a rt o f the
b reast, and th e flanks, which are marked w ith s la ty -b lu e ; beak black ; feet dark b lu e-g rey ;
eyes d a rk browm. Total length 12 inches, o f b ill from fro n t 2, from gape 2.5, wing
6.4, tail 3.2, tarsu s 0.3, middle toe 0.7, h in d toe 0.2.
