T h e name m n fy a te seems to have b een prin ted on the plate accompanying the “ Voyage
a u Pol. Sud.,” b u t th e description was n o t published till 1853. In the meantime Prince
Bonaparte had described th e species fully in h is “ Conspectus,” and I have therefore adopted
his specific name
In form H . hombroni appears to be closely allied to H . lindsayi o f Luzon, which it re places
in Mindanao ; b u t th e la tte r bird is always distinguishable by its mottled breast.

!M J u le s V e rreau x was kin d enough to procure for me o f the type specimen, which is still
unique in th e P a ris Museum.

owing to its len g th , I have n o t th o u g h t i t wo rth while to transcribe, as the distiuctive
characters are pointed o u t in the diagnosis given above.
