Old b irds o f K albicilla have th e head all white as rep resen ted in the plate, and I
beheve th e v e ry different-lookmg bfrd which forms the hin d er figure is n o th in g b u t the
v e ry y o u n g o f th e p re se n t bu-d, for i t is n o t uncommon to find a white-headed bird Avith
th e rem ains o f a few green feathers on th e crown, while D r. Ha rtlau b mentions (lc .)
several m te rmediate forms o f plumage.
Mr. Wallace informs me th a t th e p resen t species “ frequents th e rocky and forest-clad
sea-coasts o f New Guinea, Waigiou an d Gilolo, feeding on fish and small crustaceans.”
