Adult. Crown o f head b rig h t green, shaded with cobalt ; a broad line from the base
o f th e b ill encircling tbe bead, cinnamon ; ear-coverts and a narrow line cxtendmg round
tbe neck black washed w ith green ; u pper p a rt of the back and scapulars dull greenisb ;
wing-coverts and back blueish-green, shading in to b rig h t cobalt ; quills black, externally
washed with blueish-green ; ta il blueish-green above, black beneath ; a collar round the
neck and entire under-surface o f tb e body white ; bill black, yellowish a t tbe base o f the
lower mandible ; feet oHve-brown. Total len g th 8'9 mches, o f b ill from front 1'7, from
gape 2'0 , wing 4*1, tail 2'9, tarsu s 0*55.
Young. Similar to- tbe adult, b u t more dingily coloured ; superciliary cincture and
back o f neck deep cinnamon ; forehead also tinged with cinnamon ; ear-coverts jet-black ;
wing-coverts greenish-blue edged with cinnamon ; flanks tinged with fulvous ; feathers of
b rea st and back o f neck edged with n arrow brown markings.

Tbis species is a dull-coloured representative o f H . sacra, and doubtless goes thro u g h
all th e stages o f plumage which th a t b ird is knonm to assume.^ ^
