T h i s species was figured on P la te L . v o l. i., and described
on page 145 of th a t volume. AVhen it was described it had
not fructified in E n g la n d ; since then Air. Downs, of Ilfra combe,
forwarded me fertile fronds; and within the last two
months my own plan t has p u t on fertile fronds. U n d e r these
circumstances it has been deemed desirable to give an illustration
shewing the manner of fructification, especially as the
fertile fronds are v ery different in form, being contracted so
as to become almost linear.
