Polypodium—I ’olypody. Pe ctin a tum—Comh-leaved,
T h e Pohjpodium pectinatum of Linnæus is a somewhat similar
looking species to the P . paradiseæ of Langsdorff and Fische r,
figured in the present volume, Pla te I ., and described at page
1, and also bears some resemblance to the more dwarf P .
p lum u la of H um b o ld t and Bonpland, figured on Pla te X L I .,
vol. i., and described on page 133: this hitter F e rn seems to
be the P . S chkuhrii of Eaddi.
An evergreen stove species.
Native of Tropical America and the AYest Indies.
In tro d u c ed into this country in the year 1793.
Fronds sub-pinnate, the pinnæ being linear, parallel, and horizontal.
P ubesc ent, lateral, articulated on a creeping rhizoma.
L en g th of frond from twelve to th irty inches; colour dull
green.
Stipes and rachis black.
Sori circular, unise rial; colour a rich yellowish brown, and
covering the whole u n d e r surface.
