Mr. Joseph H en derson, of AYentworth, has several splendid
specimens of this F e rn .
Fronds glabrous, simple, linear, e re c t; margin slightly revolute,
coriaceous, sessile, being d e cu rren t within an inch of the
rliizoina, and then termina ting with a th ickened edge to the
stipes, b u t sometimes d e current quite to the rhizoma; apex and
base attenuated grad u a lly ; veins h id ; fronds nearly all fertile.
L ength of frond thirte en inches; width scarcely a q u a rte r of
an in ch ; colour yellowish green.
Ehizoma scaly; veins immersed, and difficult to see, y e t there
is no doubt th a t it belongs to the section CyrtopUebium,
{Cmnpyloneiiron of Smith.)
Sori medial, uniserial, from one h u n d red to one h u n d red and
twenty pairs of sori on each frond, smaller th an in P . angustifolium
, and never biserial or irreg u la r as in th a t species.
The p re sen t F e rn differs from P . angustifolium also in being
much n arrowe r, more rig id , more sha rply attenuated towards
th e apex, more contiguous, straight, shorter, and more compact,
in n o t liaving the comparatively broad b a rre n frond of that
species, and in being erect and uniserial.
A n evergreen stove F e rn , cultivated by Air. J . Henderson,
of AAtentivorth, b u t where from not known.
I am indeb ted to Air. Josep h Hen d e rso n , of AA^entworth, for
a plan t and frond of this species.
I t is not in any of the N u rse rym en ’s Catalogues.
T he illustration is from a frond sent by Air. J . Flenderson.
