Boma, so called by the European merchants, is situate on
the right bank , close to the Congo, as the Livingstone
river is called here. There are about eighteen European
residents engaged in trade in ground-nuts, palm-oil, and
ivory. It is about seventy miles from French Point, at
the mouth of the Congo.
A long, low point of land, on the right or the north bank.
A European trading settlement is established here, consisting
of several factories belonging to British, French,
and Dutch mercantile houses. The Congo is 7 miles wide
at the mouth, and deep; and soundings have been obtained
up to 1312 feet.
