A sub-glabroii3 shrub, the branchlets with pale brown puberulous bark, rarely leiiticeilate.
Zeavcs membranous, glabrous, shining, sliortly petiolate, oblaoceolate, shortly
ucuminate, distinctly serrulate, narrowjd to the base, length 3 o to 4'5, rarely 6 to 7 in.,
breadth I to 3 in., petiole -1 to •2- in. ; stipiiles linear, only -1 in. long. R'lcemes very
aliDit, crowded, axillary or extra axillary, -25 in. long; bracteoles broadly ovate, pubescent.
Sepals lanceolate, tomentose externally. Petals oblong, obtuse, thickened and
lomentose along the midrib. Stamens from the inside of a disc -which is as deep as the
iilamentii are long. Anther ovate-cordate, with a dorsal, broadly ovate-acate, membranous
appendage as broad as itsolf, and a terminal apical process from each cell. Ovar//
sessile, densely villous as is the base of the cyliudric style; stigma sub-capltato. Capsule
minutely fulvous-velvetty when young, glabrous when old, globiilar-obovoid with obtuse
angles, 1-2 iu. or more long and I in. in diam.; the valves in dehiscence compressed,
blunt. Seeds ovoid, brown, mottled, with sub-apical papillate pitted caruncle.

A glabrous shrub or small tree, the branchlets whitish, sparsely Icnticellate. Leaves
membranous, elHptic-ovate or lanceolate, sometimes oblanceolate, acuminata, narrowed at
the base, serrulate, pale when dry; nerves 8 to 10 pairs, slightly prominent below;
length 4 to 6 in,, breadth 1-/5 to 2-5 in., petiole '3 to -4 in.; stipules scarious, pale,
ovate-acute, striate, puberulou.'?, •35 in, long, deciduous. Racmes terminal, 3 to 6 in.
long, bearing numerous 3-to 5-flowered cymulcs; bracts broadly ovate, scarious, concave,
striate. Sepals broadly ovate, eiliolate. Petals oblong, obtuse, the apex undulate erose
or toothed, edges eiliolate. Slamens from Ihe edge of a fleshy disc; filaments very short,
glabrous; anthers ovate, pilose near the base, with a broadly ovate appendage from the
middle of the back curving over the apex, the cells divergent at the apex and each
with a subulate ttrminal appendage. Ovary sesisile, glabrous, globose, grooved : Style
cylindric, with a few white adpre.-ised hairs; stigma obliquely truncate, cup-shaped.

Capsules obovoid, bluntly angled, glabrous, reticulate, -75 long, their valves blunt ;
seeds globose with an ovoid beaked hilum, pale, smooth.

disc small; the cymules larger and the bracteoles longer and narrower
than in the typical form.

A shrub or tree, the young branches minutely fulvous-tomeutose. Leaves membranous,
shortly petiolate, oblong-lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate, sometimes elliptic, acute or acuminate,
more or less obscurely sermlate; the base rounded, rarely acute; upper surface
glabrous except the pubescent midrib and nerves; under surface minutely and softly
tomentose, the midrib and 14 to 16 pairs of rather straight nerves and the transverse
secondary ueiTes prominent; length 4 5 to 7 in., breadth To to 3'5 in., petiole -1 to
•2 in.; stipules lanceolate, pubescent on the midrib, -25 in. long. Ctjnica axillary and
terminal, on peduncles 1 to l'ó in. long, much branched, dichotomous, spreading, manyflowered;
bracteoles oblong, obtuse, pubescent. Sepals unequal, the outer 3 ovate-rotund
the inner 2 ovate, all obtuse and pubescent. Petals ovate-oblong, sub-acute, longer than
Ihe sepals, the apices usually reflexed. Stamens from a deep, puberulous, lobed disc;
filanients expanded and pilose towards the apex, contracted and glabrous below; anthers
eloDgate-ovate, with a single connoctival ovate terminal appendage. Ovari/ sessile, villoustomontose;
style cyliudric, puberulous; stigma trancate, cup-shapod. Capsule ovoid, obtusely
angled, adpressed-pubesceut, '35 in. long, the valves blunt; seeds sub-globose, angled;
caruncle long, naiTow.

Usunlly a treo, and sometimes attaining the lieigbfc (Jiiie Kunstler) of 70 foet. But also, according
to tliQ same colleotor, foimd as a sbrub 6 to 8 feet bigb. This is allied to the Burmese species A. mollk
H. f. and Tb., wbiob, however, besides having tha anthers of a Proslhe«ia, has much smaller cymes,
and broader bracteoles and sepals.
