sepaline spur stout-cylindric or thick-conical, siiglifcly incurved, very bknt, as long as,
or longer than, the lamina; staminodes shorter than the sepals; lamina of anterior
Btaminodes light blue, orbicular, subentii-e; carpols 3—5.
Distribution: Eastern Tibet, fromtlie northern frontier of Sikkim to Setchwan.
Tke Tariety from Southern Tibet -mia figured by the writer about three years ago for tho present
volume of the Annals under the noma of B. Kingianum-, on receiving Tratt's plants be at onca
reeogaised the close relationship between the form in question and a new Ddphiniiim gathered in the
Tacbionlu region. Meanwhile Mr. Hemsley described the latter under the name of D. pach;/MiUMm, for
which reason the wiiter has, by the kind permission of Dr. läng, substituted a new plate for tlao
original one and rechristened the Southern Tibetan form subsp. iMngvac. We have thus—
Subspecies I.—^HEUSLEYI ; stem very stout (7—9 mm. in the middle), like the pedicola densely pubescent
with minute retrorse orisp hairs; inflorescence strictly raoamosa; flowers crowded; pedicels erect; sepals
on both sidos minutely and softly pubescent ; sepaHne spur about.] the length of the kmina, stout-oyliudric,
b l u n t ; lateral eepals obovate-oblong; cai'pels usually 3 or 4.—Tachienlu region {Pratt I).
Subspecies II.—TSAXGESSIS, F. Brul-l; stem rather slender (3—5 mm. in the middle), glahrcscenf;
below, upwards hairy, more or less glandiüar; inflorescence racemose, subpanlculate or subeorymbose,
somewhat las ; pedicels patulous ; sepals glabrous iusido, the anterior ones and posterior one hairy all
over on the outside, the lateral ones puberulous along the middle; sepaline spur about as long as, or
very slightly shorter than, the lamina, stout cj'Iiudrio; oarpels usually 5, more rarely 3.—Between the
northern frontier of Sikkim and Lhossa {King's culiector .').

Var. ß. LEioCAEPi, P. B.-, ovaries quito glabrous c slighlly eiliate along the ventral suture.
Description of subspecus fea.'j^e/ssij. —Stem lereot, subS^xaose, subaugular, densely
wards, glabrescent downwards. Upper iufrafljral leaves shortly-pDtioied; blade of
firm textui-e, subpentagonal in outline, cordate, nearly, isodiametric, trisect, pubescent,
especially along the margin and the nerves; middle sugment oblong lanceolate, towards
the base cuneate, 3—4 cm, long, 12—15 mm. broad, pinnatoly trifid, acute; middle
lacinia g the length of the segment, incised with 2 or 3 soiTatures on either side;
lateral lacinite twice or three times shorter, obliquelj- ovate, pauoiserrate; lateral loafsegments
trapezoidal, very broad-cuneate, unequally bipartite beyond the middle,
2-5—'62 mm. broad; intermediate partitions similar to the middle SDgment; outer ones
broader, unequally bifid, sparsely incised-serrate; all serraturea apiculate; .petioles not
dilated at the base, semiterete, canaliculate, 15—5 mm. long, haiiy, sparsely glandulose.
Inflorescence many-flowered, 4—12 cm. long; flowers on the lateral branches ratlier
crowded. Floral axis beset with glandular and eglandular hairs. Floral leaves subconform
to lower ones, but gradually more shortly petiolatj, the uppermost ones rather
more simple. Pedicels patulous, terete, lower ones 2-5—5 cm. long, uppermost 1—2"5
cm. long, indumentum like that of floral axis, towards the apes bibractoolate and villous.
Bracteolcs opposite, linear, acute, 6—11 mm. long, haiiy. Sepals membranous, pale
blue. Sepaline spur obtuse, sometimes 2 mm. shorter than the lamina. Nectaries glabrous;
lamina oblong-subspatulate, 2—4 mm. shorter than the lamina of the posterior sepal, obtuse,
entire; spur about as long, open laterally to about the middle, below the slit subulate,
acute. Anterior staminodes hairy on the back, lamina 6—7 mm. long, about as long as
the claw. Stamens 25—30, subequal, 7—9 mm. long; filaments membrsinous, dilated
below, with the wings attenuated upwards and eiliate; anthers elliptic, 1 mm. long.
Carpels 5, rarely 3, 5—7 mm. long; ovary ovoid-oblong; style about 2 mm. long, at
first straight but finally recurved. Ovules numsrous.
