an erect ligule at the mouth, Stigmatic processes olavate. Pollinia with minute glands.
Capsule shortly pedicelled, J in. long, fusiform, ribs thick.
A Tery conmion, widely difiiised Indian species, and coosefniently very variaUo in stature,
foliaceouB halit and size of the flowers. Forms wbich I have included iinder var. folma, and which
ascend to i',000 feet in the Nilghiris, are very leafy, but shorter, with denser flowers, shorter
bracts and filiform segments of the lip: to it are referable H. foliosa, A. Rich., H. laciniata, Dalz.,
Phtmthcra marginaia. Wall, and Orchis mysoreims, Heyno.
The specimen here figured is noted on the drawing as from "near Darjeeling, October 1S77.
G. King." It represents a plant nearly twice as large as any of the specimens of the species that
I have "seen.

Differs from the ordinary form of H. stenopdaia in the esaggeratid length and capillary

The drawing is made from a dried speeunen ticketed " Naga Hills, No. 79, Jots

Cloidy «EiaJ to IT. p„limh, Don., mi tikm for it by Lindley, who, a oWred in the Hora of
Biitish India, gave thG latter plant the name of H. smifolia. It diffeiii from U. pcctimta in the much
broader and w y gibbons puboBOent petal,, and in tie longer lip. They may proYe to be rarietiei,
for tbey inhabit tlio same monntaina and at about the same elevation, but. as hitherto observed,
apparently keeping their charaeters. Tbe closely alhed II. ma-medm, Don., also of the temperate
