gpur su"bulate or slender, cylincbioal, more or less curved, 15—20 mm. long; nootarial
Bpiirs tHn, awl-shaped, sligUtly iiiourved or recurved; ovaries hairy all over; lamina
of anterior staniinodes suborbioular, shortly bilobed, diso and base sparsely bosot witb
short biiira, glabrous below; seed-scales rather short, adprassed; leaves of D. eaniwlmfdium^
(,Gnffith, Aiglianistan, 156 supyl Ugt-, No. 45, Eerb. East Ind. Oomp.).
B. demulatum. Wall,, is very closely allied to D. sunioulifolium ; not only are its sepaline spirr?
ver)' often gibboue, but even the glandular habs wMoh aro often prosent on the iioral axis of forms
of ]). sajMulifolium, sometimes mnke theu- tippcarance in a similar position in specimens of D. denudntu::.
The latter can, however, be always distiugxushed from the former by the seed-scales being laxly,
not dosely, imbricate. Some specimens of D. deuudatuin agree nearly exactly with Don's B. panc/flcr
which has, according to Don's description, : nodes like those of B. di-nud^/um, and not
like those of B. Jjacii. The fact that Hamilton suggested D. consolida on his sheet hns little weight,
as various other guesses of his were equally wide of their mark. There would, however, be little
use in changing the came of B. di-nudaiiun afler it lias obtained the sanction of long usage, the
more so as the name of D. p mcijlo' wn has been applied by ether authors to otlier species, and is
therefore somewhat discredited.
