Lateral sepals very "broad; petals and lip concealed within the sepals; lip hardly
longer than the column.
Described from the drawing, whiob probablv exaggerates the dimenstona of the speoiraen it
portrays. The species was first described by Lindley in 183S from living plants wliioli were procured
f r om Kew and said to have been received from Nepal (no doubt from Dr. Wallic^). Lindley's desc
r i p t i o n ' accords very well with the figure here reproduced, which is that of a Sitkim plant, which
was collected at Pacheem, on the southward flanks of the outer Himalaya, at aa tlevatiou of about
6,000 feet.
T h e Indian species of Acdnthcphippiuni all want careful analyses and figures taken from liying
specimens; the texture of their flowers is such that in a dried state they oannot be satisfactorily
studied.
