fld.; peduncle j in., leaf-opposed; pedicel with ovary f in.; bracts minute; flower | in.
long, naiTow. Column ratlser long for the genus. Capsulo sab-clavate, f in. long.
lindley describes the peduncles as subtenninal, and the flowers as white tinged with green, probably
from a cultivated specimen ; but in an e3:cellent drawing made by Mrs. Walker in Coylon, they
fire, as represented here, of a pale rather bu3 yellow. Thwaites lias referred to this the Peninsular
D, Jerdonianum, Wight (Ic. t. 1614), and no doubt thg species are nearly allied, if not varieties of
one; but in that the stems are much more robust, the leaves deeply acutely cleft at Ihe broad apes,
and the flowers larger. The drawing here reproduced is inscribed "D. Jerdonianum, Wight, Ootacamund,
^ in., lid. in H. B. C. Feb. 1863, T. A." The length of the column is remarkable, as noticed
under J), pachijglosium (Plate XII),

short; bracts ^ in.; pedicels with ovary -| in.; flower 1—1^ in. across the spreading
subfalcate lateral sepals, very fragrant, pui-e white. Lip yellowish towards the base.
A beautiful species and very fragrant. I have seen no Khosian specimens; hut the drawing
here reproduced is inscribed "D. candidum, WaU., Mr. Gibson's collections; grows erect like D.
nobile." Mr. Gibson was a collector in the Khasia, sent out by the Duke of Devonshire about the
year 1834, and who, according to Lindley (Bot. Eeg,), discovered D. candidum at Nungklow in the
Khasia hills.

HAD.—KHASIA HILLS, alt. 3—5,000 ft. {le. in Hart. Calcutta.). TENASSEEIM, Parish.
Stems tufted, 6—12 in., internodes 1—\\ in. Leaves 3—4 by f inch, rather thin.
Bacemes at the nodes. Fcdunch slender, in., with short scattered green sheaths; bracts
linear-oblong, obtuFe, green; pedicel with ovary ^—^ in.; flowers i in. long. Lip
nearly as long as the sepals, concave, not recurved, white with red veins and a yellow
tramsverse band.
The specimen figiu'ed, which is inscribed "introduced from the Khasia Hills in 1867, fld. on
1st June 1868," differs from the description in tlie Flora of British India in the smallness of the
lateral lobes of the lip, or rather in the greater breadth of the terminal lobe, and in wanting the red
veins and yellow band wHch are represented in a drawing of the Tenasserim plant by Mr. Parish-
That the drawing cannot be altogether relied upon is evinced by the sepals and petals being
represented as acuminate in the flowers of the natural size, and with rounded tips in the enlarged
figures 1 and 2; the latter being the more correct. By inadvertence I have in the Flora of British
India (r. 737) adopted Keichenbach's later name of sp/icgidoglossuw, which is corrected at p. 186
of Vol. YI.
