It was appointed and commanded that the chiefe officers,, bay-
liffes, and conftables, within everye circutt and cumpafle wherein the
Doggs are appointed to be kept, ihould take charge for taike-
bgthe inhabitants towards the charge thereof, and colleft the fame,
ind for provydinge the Slough Boggs, and to inform the commiffio-
bers, if any refufed to pay their contribution, whereby fuch as re-
iifed ihould be committed to the gaole till they paid the fame.
|N.B. Biihop Nicolfon has publiihed the orders of the Watches,
6. Ed. 6. in his Border Laws, p. 215, &c. but as I have met with
nothing concerning the Slough Boggs till the time of James the Firft,
am inclined to think it was a new inftitution in that King’s reign»,
when they were alfo appointed in the Scotch borders.
