S everal plates have b < ^ given oftfae different offiem of this singular
and extensive corps» in their various dressds, namely, Maté XVIII.
XXVIII. and XXXIV.' and indeed they might be extended to almost
any length; as, besidesnfee great variety arising from fee numerous
officers, .and; the different provinces to which they belong, the Janissaries
themselves are not restrained in the coiour of their clothes.
They must, .however, generally wear large blue short trowsers, red
sKppers, and a peculiar bonnet.
