hence. there results a great varietyin manners, language, and religion.
The - Armenians form about one twelfth part of the population,
They reside both in the interior of th e city and in the suburbs,
particularly in Pera. They are almost' all merchants, apd
some of them to an immense extent, and possess warehouses and

exact in the performance of every thing, relative-to religion; and this

ful subjects of the Ottoman empire. These are now almost the oply
remains of that once powerful and flourishing nation, so noted for
