This IS probably the C. pumila. Th., of Japan. The rhizome creeps extensively in the sand, and the leaves
and long bracts are rigid, with long, attenuated, carved extremities.

The culms are often only 2 or 3, or from 6-12 inches high. Tbe generally compact yellow spiculæ are fui-
mshed with long bracts, and the upper ones occasionaUy have male flowers at top. It is scarcely distinniishable

This foms large tufts of long, pale-gi'een, grassy foUage, Uke the European C. Pseudocyperus, which it closely
smbles. The culms are 2-3 feet high, with fom- or five spikes, which, wheu pendulous, have the perigynia recurved.
The lower bracts are very long.

A sliort, densely tufted, leafy species, witb culms 1-3 inches high, the pale-green spikes concealed among the
leaves, wliich ate from 2-10 inches long, and 1-2 lines broad. It is distinguished by its pubescent peilgjnia.

A tall species, remarkable for its fascicled spikelets on long pendulous pednneles. the spikelets oecasionallv
only fertile in the middle. The variety is probably only a young seedling state.
