Southwards o f Guatemala this Tinamou was met with in AYcstern Honduras by
Mv. G. C. Taylor, during his journey across the proposed Interoceanic Raihvay-route, and at
Bobedero, on the Gulf o f Nico}-a, by Arcc. From the latter collector we have received two
specimens, which agi-ee sufficiently well Avith northern examples.
The front figure o f Plate XL V . represents what avc consider to be an adult male o f this
species. I t is taken from a specimen (marked male) procured near Vera Cruz, in November,
1864, b y M. Boucard. The figure in the back-groimd is that o f one o f Salvin’s Guatemalan
specimens, which avc believe to be a female, shot in the forests o f the Pacific coast region, near
the hacienda “ F l Zapote.” Both these specimens are noAv in the collection o f Jlcssrs. Salvin
and Godman. As pointed out in the characters above-given, the female differs from the male
in the greater development o f the transverse markings, Avhich in this sex cover the top of
the head, the front o f the breast, and the Avhole o f the sides o f the body beloAv. In some o f tbe
adult males the bars on the breast and sides are almost entfrely evanescent, even more so than
is represented in our figm-e.
