TheCnbattSoKtoirewos first described seieutifieally by Lentbeye. in bis “ ^
Isla Cuba,” pubbsbed at Havana in 1860, thougb it appears to have been long tvell-knowu by
the Spanish inhabitants o f the Island under the name o f “ Euiseuor, ^ or N.ghtmgale. Like
the o L r members o f the genus, it possesses, as is iudieated by its uattve He l e s
o f souoywhieh are much dilated ou by Lembeye iu the work just spoken of. He p v e s
however, but few other details eoneeruing its habits, merely meutiomug that it is supposed
breed in the moimtain-forests of the eastern portion o f the island. ^
Lembeye placed this bird iu the genus Muscimpa, and Dr. Cahanis was the fi 1
out, from a i examination of skins transmitted to Berlhi by GuMlaeh, its true posifi n tfe
u aA a l series. According to Gundlach’s notes, it is also fomid ni the Island of P'”- - ^ “
the stony moimtains of Western Cuba, and is frequently captured and kept in cages. Its ,
he tells us, “ consists of berries aud Insects. Its voice is quite peculiar, resembloig an lEo an
