The late M. Delattre, a French collector well known for many successful excursions into the
forests o f South America, was die discoverer o f this Tachjplonus, wdiicli was named after him
hy Lafresnaye. 11. Delattre's specimens w-ere obtained at S. Bueiiaventiira, on the western
coast of New Granada, and examples from Gorgona in the same neiglihonrhood, procured by
Capt. Kellett, are in the British Museum. The bird appears to extend further sontli, along
the densely wooded coast-region into the republic o f Ecuador, Mr. Fraser having transmitted
a single female o f this species from the vicinity o f Pallatanga.
Mr. 0 . J . Wood met with a flock o f diis Tanager on die Eio Truando, during the Danen
Sm-vey imder Lieut. Michler, as recorded by Mr. Cassin. Mr. Wood says tliat the species was
only once seen in the bushes on the hanks o f that river in the month o f March.— “ About
“ twenty were in company, and several were obtained, although they were very shy and not
“ easdy approached. They appeared to he feeding upon a berry wliich was ahimdant.”
Proceeding northwards, Delattre’s Tachypliono appears to be not uncommon on the
Isthmus o f P aLma . Mr. MeLeannan met witli it in the vloinity o f his station on the Eaiiwaj-,
and has supplied both European and American collectors with specimens fi'Oin that locality.
Mr. McLeannan notes the hides o f die male as red, and those o f the female as hrouin*
