by tbe much darker colouring of tlie body below, particularly on tbe breast and sides ; and by
the absence of the curious scale-like feathers on the front and sides of the neck, which, as far
as we know, are peculiar to G. alhifacies.
As regards the description of G. chiriquensis given by Bonaparte (Compt. Bend, x l i i i ,
p. 943) which originally led us into error, wc are still in doubt whether it was meant for tlie^
true G. chiriquensis, or for G. alhifacies. It would appear most applicable to the former, but H'
the specimen was really received from Jalapa, was no doubt intended for the latter. The other
synonyms of these two species may, wc believe, be correctly stated as follows;—
