Southern Provinces o f Concepcion and Valdivia.
The present species, along with its allies o f the same group. I t tarnii and I I megapodius,
possesses fourteen rectrices,—a salient point o f distinction between them and the typical
Pteroptochi, in which tlio normal Passerine number o f twelve is preserved.
Our figure o f this species is taken from a specimen iu Mr. Sclatcr’s collection, obtained
from the describers direct.
The genus Ilylactes contains, as far as our present knowledge extends, only the three
following species, viz.
