n g chiefly of beautiful flowering Cape bulbs

m o n t h of October , the y s h o u l í b e taken out of their
p o t s , and replanted in f res h soil, w h e n they should
be set m a cool f r ame , or some such place, as thev
r e q u i r e to be only protected from frost till such
ti^me as their pots are full of young roots.: then
t h e y m a y b e set i n a w a rme r s i tuat ion, and watered
r e g u l a r l y , and they will flower freely. The hardv
s p e c i e s thrive well in a light sandy soil, and are
J a p i d l y increased, as wel l as the tender kinds, by
o f f s e t s f r o m the bulbs; they require to be planted
n a w a r m south border . If intended to r ema i n in
^ e ground all the wint e r , the smaller bulbs must
b e p l ant e d six i n c h e s deep, and the l a r g e r ones eight
m c h ^ , so as to be out of the reach of f rost ; they
s h o u l d also be covered wi t h a little dry litter in
