An ext remely beaut i ful genus of plant s , wel l

of their flowers. Among the most showy and

the double var iet ies of which require some care to
prevent them f rom returning to a s ingle s tate. L.
fulgens and grandijlora are t ruly b e a u t i f u l ; the
lat ter will grow and flower well if planted out in
the open border in spr ing, but it mus t be taken up
in autumn, or the frost will kill it. The y all grow
f reely in l ight rich loamy soi l ; but they mus t be

and the best time to do this is early in spring. T h e
