most of the species climb like the vine. Linn. 13,

h i g h l y ornamental genus of, for the most part,
c l i m b i n g plants. The greenhouse species are very
d e s i r a b l e where climbers are wanted; they grow
well m any Jight soil, or loam and peat; cuttings
root treely under a glass. The same treatment is
r e q u i r e d for the stove kinds. The hardy kinds
g r ow in any common garden soil, and are well
adapted for trelhs-woik, or for training against a
wail. They are readily increased by Jaying- the
voung shoots in J u l y or October. The herbaceous
kinds are increased by dividing the plants at the
root early in spring. Synonymes: 1. C. calycina.
