P ro n d s ample, tria n g u la rly -e lo n g a te ,' trip in n a te , and flaccid;
pinnules oblong-acuminate, segments membranous, ro u n d ish , and
deeply p in n a tifid ; base d e cu rren t, margin b lu n tly c ren a te ; p r imary
pinme distant.
P ro n d s la te ra l, v e ry h irsu te , especially on the veins and
costa beneath.
E hizoma creeping.
L en g th of frond thirty-five to fifty inch e s; colour a grass
green.
Sori la rg e , mostly solitary on th e en tire lobes, and having
several on the pinnatifid ones.
Sir W . J . H o o k e r describes four varieties, namely,—
Subglabra.—F ro n d s n e a rly glabrous.
Pubescens.— F ro n d s p u bescent, with close sh o rt down.
H isp id a .— F ro n d s hairy.
Rhomhoidea.—A much la rg e r F e rn . I t is the D avallia rhomhoidea
of W a llich , and Microlepia rhomhoidea of Pre sl.
