Caudex e rect, g rowing to th e h e ig h t of four or five feet.
F ro n d s p innate, glabrous, and ovate-lanceolate in fo rm ; pinna;
la rg e , (twelve inches in len g th ,) lanceolate-acuminate, sessile, and
pinnatifid for above two th ird s of its le n g th ; segments obtuse
and suh-falcate, apex se rrulated.

Veins once or twice fo rk ed , th e basal ones angularly-ana stomosing.
Stipes aculeated, having a scale on each prickle.
